Deus ex umbella

As Fingo walked through the park, stepping on dried wet leaves that crunched like moist crackers from yesterday, raindrops slowed down, ceasing to descend. Silence covered all things like a damp thick blanket, and then he noticed a warm glow growing, his umbrella humming low. That's when he realized...

Oh the mystery. Made this afternoon from scratch with the Graphire4 and Photoshop CS2. I used one texture I got from dA's stock gallery to emphasize the canvas look. You can even get this printed on real canvas and it should look awesomely canvassy. Wanted to improvise a bit without following the usual draw-scan-paint workflow. Made for this month's topic at the children's illustrators group at dA.

Lisístrata Unplugged

I've been working for the past week on graphics for a great theater play it's going to premiere next tuesday night here in Buenos Aires. It's called Lisístrata Unplugged as it's based on classical Aristophanes' comic play Lysistrata, but with a musical touch to it (and some hilarious bits). It's presented by the group Los Valijeros, and I I previously known some of them, they did the right thing and hired me to illustrate stuff. Here's some other material, a promotional light animated GIF for mailing:

It's in spanish, but the basic idea is that to stop the war, greek women decided to shelter on the parthenon and refuse to have sex with their husbands until they stop fighting. Needless to say the whole thing is very funny. So if you happen to be around Buenos Aires for some teather night, check it out.

our cup of tea

The children illustrators group at deviantART have an assigment this month called "cup of tea". I made this drawing on the Moleskine sketchbook I bought in the Art Gallery of NSW with my trusty black birome:

Then after a bit of scanning and photoshoppin' with the wacom it ended up looking like this:

You can click on it and see it bigger at dA, this is what I wrote about it:

For those couples out there that sometimes feel everybody else is not their cup of tea.
For those who managed to get their own cup of tea to be happy in.
For those who chosed having less room and more hugs.

Featured in Shift Japan

I can't believe how I forgot about this. Back in December I was contacted by Gisella Lifchitz who writes for Shift, an E-zine from Japan, published in both english and japanese. She found my/this website by chance, and wanted to make me an interview. WTF? Me? Oh, nice. So some time later I met her at a cafe here in Buenos Aires and chat for more than an hour about lots of things. It was weird to talk about myself, but at the same time a nice ego boost and one of those small signs you're on the right track.

So thank you Gisella for your interest and the things you say there!

You can read the interview online here.

UPDATE: It seems the folks at Shift are under site redesign, I've found this link that seems to work while the previous one don't. Good luck!

Danke Ehrensenf!

lady from ehrensenf
Earlier today I had one of those random weird moments you get from time to time by the marvels of the internet. My friend Peter from the great german Lemotox podcast told me he was watching Germany's best known web tv when he saw me being featured (I'm at 2' aprox). Well, I can't tell you I understand what she said, but I suppose it was something great because I'm seeing now several visitors coming here for the first time. What's even better is that they choose a very special piece to feature, the tragic story of John and Betty.
Strange enough, it's been 5 days since I got back home from Germany itself, and this has nothing to do with that! Man life is a bit crazy sometimes.
So thanks for your interest, thanks Peter for discover it, and special thanks to the people at Ehrensenf for the mention!

3 weeks in Australia the video

I won't entertain you with the technical issues behind this little piece of video, but let's just say it's finally done. All clips taken with my new Canon G7, at different resolutions. I'm a bit ashamed to have used copyrighted music but it was too perfect a fit to let it go, so excuse me José.
What a special wonderful time I had there, and it's mostly thanks to both Amy and Gary for being such great friends, hosts, mates, and tourist guides.

What to look for: translucent water, wrong side driving, wombats and wallabies and peacocks and goannas, funny wii moves, camping, sleepy faces, lots of coins, coins used in blackjack, me in diving suit, 3 laptops, sharks and turtles and fish, a thermos, a funny japanese guide in colorful shirt and glasses, incredible view of australia day from the opera house hall, thai food, crazy octopus, lifeguard championship, welcome mat, happy bodyboard, gorgeous fridge with cheddar, and many beautiful smiles.
